MARS MEETS THE 92% ILLUMINATED MOON THIS EVENING! - 09/02/2025

Tonight, a special celestial meeting will be taking place! In the early evening of the 9th of February, the Moon will pay an extremely close visit to the red planet Mars.

From central UK, the Moon and Mars will appear to be separated by only 4.8 arcminutes at closest approach (that’s less than 1/12th of a degree)!

WHEN TO LOOK

Shortly following sunset, you will be able to spot Mars appear very close by to the Moon in the evening twilight skies. You will then be able to witness the Moon and Mars get closer and closer until at around 6:57pm the two will reach their closest to each other.

WHERE TO LOOK

Look towards the East just after sunset, and you will be able to locate the Moon and Mars both appearing in the zodiacal constellation of Gemini the twins.
