🚨 AURORA UPDATE 🚨 SUNDAY 11TH @ 19:00💚💜💙✨️
WOW, what an incredible night of aurora we were treated to last night. Visible across the UK, from cities, gardens, bedroom windows and even visible to the eye at points and overhead in some places! Well done to everyone that saw and captured it! Amazing photographs everyone! 😍
So, I know the question on everyone's lips is will it happen again tonight...
As things stand no, but if we have other arrivals then we may potentially see more aurora. It will be unlikely to be as strong as last night. But we will be keeping an eye on things just incase.
Initially the arrivals were meant to come tonight. But a number of the coronal mass ejections may have merged together and arrived at once last night.
There is no way to know whether we will or won't be treated to more aurora tonight until we see arrival of the solar winds at a satellite level. It is thought that we may see a couple of CME arrivals/glancing blows over the next couple of days. Plus we are also expecting elevated solar winds from the coronal hole stream over the couple of days too.
We will be keeping our eyes on them and updating on our socials and our aurora alerts app on WhatsApp throughout the night.
For now you can rest, or go and enjoy the night sky if you happen to be treated to clear skies. Being around the new moon means that the moon won't be causing any natural light pollution, we have several meteor showers active, saturn is looking amazing and so is the milkyway!
As always, if you head out to enjoy the night sky at any time soon, we wish you good luck and clear skies. ✨️

🚨 BIG AURORA ALERT 🚨 CORONAL MASS EJECTION(S) ARRIVED AND THE SPACE WEATHER STATS HAVE SKY ROCKETED! POTENTIAL AURORA TONIGHT FROM DARK! 💚💜💙✨️
UPDATE @ 19:23 BST 10/10/26 - G3 (Strong) Geomagnetic storm levels reached!
UPDATE @ 18:52 BST 10/10/26 - KP levels have reached G2 (moderate) geomagnetic storm levels! Wind speed levels have now reached over 860 km/s, density is now at 20 p/ccm, IMF strength (Bt) is still strong at 25 nT, and polarity (Bz) has been South for over 3 hours now which is very promising. We are now getting closer to dark in the UK and we will be heading out ourselves very soon. We will make sure to keep you all updated, stay tuned for more updates!
UPDATE @ 18:30 BST 10/10/26 - Solar wind speed levels have now increased to high levels of over 700 km/s, density has dropped to around 37 p/ccm (which is still great), strength of the IMF (Bt) is still strong at 34 nT, and the polarity (Bz) of the solar wind has been holding south for over an hour now with levels reaching -25nT. All in all stats are all still looking good and hopefully the polarity can stay southwards as we approach dark allowing aurora to build. Stay tuned for more updates!
UPDATE @ 17:06 BST 10/10/26 - kp levels have already reached G1 geomagnetic storm levels. Density has dropped, but polarity (Bz) of the solar wind has now flipped South, let's hope it continues to hold south allowing aurora to build as we get closer to nightfall. Stay tuned for more updates!
Updated at 16:00 BST on 10 October 2026.
As mentioned in our previous aurora post, we have several coronal mass ejections with a potential Earth directed element and a high speed stream from a couple of coronal holes expected this weekend.
Well looking at the space weather stats right now it looks like we've just had an arrival and its arrival sure is packing a punch!
While the solar wind speed has increased by a modest amount from 380 km/s to around 530 km/s. The density has skyrocketed to 111.48 particles/cm³ and the Bt component of the IMF has skyrocketed to almost 40 nT! If the magnetic field remains strong and Bz stays southward into darkness, aurora prospects could improve significantly. Clear skies will also be essential.
It was thought that a coronal mass ejection from Thursday may catch up with an earlier eruption and arrive at the same time in what some people know as a “cannibal CME”. It is hard to know exactly what is causing this, we may be seeing multiple CMEs arrive along with the expected Coronal hole stream however it certainly doesn't look like just the coronal hole stream.
Coincidentally, this major activity just so happens to be on the anniversary of the incredible October 10th 2024 aurora display that was visible across the whole of the UK.
All in all the stats are currently looking very exciting. If the magnetic field remains strong and Bz turns southward and stays there into darkness, we could have improved chances of aurora across parts of the UK wherever skies are clear, potentially visible by eye during stronger activity. Fingers crossed everyone!
We will be making sure to keep an eye on the stats and skies as we get closer to dark and will make sure to keep you all updated on our socials and this post.
Wishing you all good luck and clear skies!
