A MINI PLANETARY ALIGNMENT TOMORROW MORNING STARRING THE MOON, JUPITER, VENUS, AND MERCURY - 21/08/2025
Another very special celestial treat for early birds and all night stargazers!
On the morning of the 21st of August the 5% illuminated waning crescent Moon will appear in between the planets Venus and Mercury and form a small planetary alignment along with Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury.
This amazing gathering will make for a beautiful sight and a fantastic photographic opportunity!
WHEN AND WHERE TO LOOK
Look towards the East-Northeast during the early morning twilight before sunrise for a chance to view this special alignment. Jupiter, Venus, the Moon and Mercury will rise above the North-Eastern horizon at roughly 01:46, 02:36, 02:53, and 04:04 BST respectively, but will all be easier to observe once they have risen a little above the horizon.
Mercury may be easier to find with the help of a pair of binoculars, but remember to stop using your binoculars once the sun appears! Scan the area of sky around 7 degrees below the Moon to find Mercury.
OTHER PLANETS TO LOOK OUT FOR
There are quite a few planets that are visible in our night and early morning skies at the moment, and some people are calling this period of time another “Planetary Alignment/Parade”.
Saturn is very easy to observe at the moment in our night time skies, located in the constellation of Pisces.
The faint planets Uranus and Neptune are also visible in our night skies at the moment but require a good pair of binoculars or a telescope to observe. Uranus can be found in Taurus around 4 degrees of the Pleiades star cluster (aka the Seven Sisters). Neptune can be found very close by to Saturn in Pisces.
