THE FULL “SUPER WOLF MOON” JOINS JUPITER AND THE TWINS OF GEMINI TONIGHT! – 03/01/2026
Stargazers and night sky enthusiasts are in for a special celestial treat tonight!
Tonight, on the night of Saturday the 3rd into the morning of the 4th of January, January’s full “Wolf Moon” will appear close by to the amazing gas giant planet Jupiter and the bright stars Pollux and Castor of Gemini.
The full Moon of January will also be what is known as a “Super Moon”, and will appear slightly larger and brighter than usual.
This special celestial meeting will make for a beautiful sight in the skies and an excellent photographic opportunity!
WHEN AND WHERE TO LOOK
The Moon, Jupiter and the twins of Gemini will be visible all night long from darkness.
As the night progresses, the Moon will appear to slowly move in between Jupiter and Pollux, and the celestial gathering as a whole will continue to rise higher in the sky travelling towards the South where they will reach their highest point in the sky at roughly 00:45 GMT on the morning of the 4th. At this moment in time, the Moon will reach an altitude of 60 degrees.
Around this time, the Moon will move in between Jupiter and Pollux, creating a straight line formation.
From here the gathering will then begin to descend travelling towards the West with Jupiter, Pollux and Castor disappearing from view in the dawn twilight and the Moon setting at around 09:39.
LOOK OUT FOR METEORS TOO!
This special celestial gathering also coincides with the peak night of the Quadrantid meteor shower. Even though the bright full Moon will be creating a lot of natural light pollution, leaving only the brightest of meteors visible, you have a fairly good chance of seeing some meteors (aka shooting stars) on this night too!
