Pink aurora glow above the orange summer twilight at Whitby harbour, captured with a Nikon Z8

Last Night's Aurora Display 24-25/06/2026

Last night we went on a little adventure to try and catch the Aurora during the brightest month of the year.

Our Celestial Adventure

The solar wind stats were looking quite promising due to a high speed stream from a large coronal hole. And so despite the bright twilight skies, we knew it was worth giving it a go.

After giving a heads up to our followers on our socials about the possibility of Aurora, we gathered our camera gear and headed out on the hunt for aurora.

We decided to head to Whitby as the cloud radar was saying that the area around there was promising for clear skies.

On the way to Whitby the waxing gibbous Moon looked amazing and watched over us as we headed along.

When we arrived at Whitby, we decided to head to the harbour so we could have a nice clear view of the Northern horizon to give us the best chance of catching the aurora with the bright twilight skies.

We set up our cameras and started shooting. Despite the bright twilight skies, we could see a hint of the aurora on our cameras with a pink glow appearing above the warm orange hues on the horizon.

Whilst we were shooting, Luna and Selena (our dogs!) enjoyed swimming in the harbour. Whitby harbour is one of Luna's favourite places to visit and they had a great time playing in the cool sea water.

After a little while the skies began to become too bright to see the aurora clearly and so we decided to pack up and head back home.

Our Photograph of a Summer Aurora

We captured many images last night and thought it would be nice to share one of them with you. We hope you like it. šŸ™‚

In this photograph you can see the lighthouses and walls of Whitby harbour, on the horizon is the beautiful orange glow of the summer twilight and just above is the pink glow of the aurora that was just strong enough to cut through the twilight.
