UPDATE 23:10 BST 24/06/2026:Â
Stats are looking pretty good at the moment. Solar wind speeds are moderately high around 600 km/s, density is good at around 15 p/ccm, IMF strength is moderately strong around 14 nT, polarity has been fluctuating up and down but seeems to be staying south at the moment. Hopefully the polarity stays South for a little while allowing the aurora to build upÂ
Aurora Alert: Potential Northern Lights Tonight & Tomorrow
Quick heads up! We may potentially be treated to some aurora tonight/tomorrow due to a coronal hole stream. Of course we have such a narrow window of dark skies and everything has to line up just right during that limited time to result in an aurora display. Plus we have the bright moon to consider — but we may just be lucky!
It is also worth looking out for noctilucent clouds tonight. 🌙
What to Watch For
If no luck with the coronal hole stream, we also have a huge sunspot region just starting to rotate into view from the East limb — which could be very exciting indeed! We will get a closer look at its complexity in the coming days. Hopefully this could lead to some nice eruptive solar flares as it approaches the Earth strike zone.
Where to Look
Head somewhere dark with a clear northern horizon — the North York Moors and the Yorkshire coast offer some of the best dark sky viewing in the region. Look north and give your eyes at least 20 minutes to adjust.
