POSSIBILITY OF AURORA TONIGHT? 04/09/2024

IT LOOKS LIKE WE COULD BE SEEING AN ARRIVAL FROM A CORONAL MASS EJECTION FOLLOWING A FAR SIDED EVENT ON MONDAY. COULD THIS LEAD TO AURORA THIS EVENING? WE WILL SEE 04/09/2024. 💚💜💙👀✨️

Last Monday (01/09/24) there was a fairly substantial solar flare and subsequent coronal mass ejection observed around the South East Limb. Although the region was a farsided event directed away from Earth, it was thought there may be an Earth directed component.

Looking at the current space weather satellite data it looks like we could be seeing arrival from this CME now. The solar wind speed, the solar wind density and the strengths of the interplanetary magnetic field have all risen. We are also starting to see movement with the Bz component of the interplanetary magnetic field and the magnetometers.

This could potentially lead to aurora tonight. However it is a long way until dark, so whether this will last until nightfall nobody knows. As we all know, so many factors have to come together just right to result in an auroral display. But we will be keeping an eye on things and we will keep you updated as we head towards nightfall. Fingers crossed! 🤞
