The Waxing Crescent Moon and Venus Above Whitby Abbey | Our Celestial Adventure | 18th May 2026
On the evening of 18 May, the Waxing Crescent Moon and the brilliant planet Venus graced the twilight sky in a stunning conjunction, and we went on a little adventure to witness this special celestial event.
Our Celestial Adventure
On this particular evening we were accompanied by a friend who had travelled all the way from Scotland to visit us for a few days.
It was a beautiful spring evening and straight after picking our friend up from the train station in Scarborough we set off to Whitby along with the Astro Dog Luna, her little sister Selena and all our camera gear.
We chose to travel to Whitby as the cloud radar was showing that there was a lot of cloud moving towards us from the West and that the area around Whitby would be free from cloud for a little while plus we knew that the Moon and Venus would look amazing above the abbey at Whitby.
Along the way the Moon and Venus looked beautiful in the twilight skies and the celestial duo guided us all the way towards our destination.
When we arrived at Whitby we got all our camera gear, took a short walk to our planned shooting location and started snapping.
The Moon and Venus looked incredible perched above Whitby Abbey with the beautiful post sunset twilight colours painting the sky in deep oranges and blues.
After a short while of shooting we decided to head to one of our favourite places on the moors nearby to have a nice walk through the heather with our friend, Luna and Selena.
We captured lots of photographs on this evening and thought it would be nice to share one of our favourites with all of you. š
