TIME-LAPSE OF AMAZING AURORA DISPLAY ABOVE WHITBY ABBEY! - 16/05/2026
On Friday night (16th of May 2026) we went on a little celestial adventure chasing the Aurora.
OUR CELESTIAL ADVENTURE
If you have been following our page recently you would know that we have been awaiting the arrival of some Aurora activity due to the large centrally located Coronal Hole 53. The night before, we waited patiently to see if the impending Coronal High Speed Stream from Coronal Hole 53 would deliver. Unfortunately, the initial impact occurred during the morning, so we knew we would have to wait until nightfall to see if we would have a chance of seeing some Aurora.
The stats remained promising throughout the day and the folks down under were being treated to some great displays as we waited patiently.
We made sure to keep everyone up to date throughout the day, to make sure all our followers were prepared for an Aurora display, and as night fell we gathered our camera gear and headed out to chase the Aurora.
We decided to head to one of our favourite places to go for Aurora chasing, the beautiful seaside town of Whitby.
We planned to head to Whitby as the cloud radar looked like that area was likely to clear out completely just as darkness fell.
As soon as we arrived we set up 3 of our cameras and started shooting.
It was an amazing display and even with the bright skies that we are experiencing at this time of year there were moments where you could see the Aurora by eye. On the camera we were treated to some beautiful colours with a glowing green arc and vivid pink rays stretching into the sky.
Whilst we were capturing photos Luna and her little sister Selena played fetch and enjoyed themselves under the stars and Aurora. It was a wonderful evening and when the morning twilight began to creep in, we packed up our gear and headed back to put together a time-lapse of the photographs we captured.
OUR TIME-LAPSE OF THE AURORA
In this time-lapse you can see beautiful, historic Whitby Abbey and in the sky above the magical display of the Aurora Borealis.
This time-lapse was created from almost 3,000 photographs that were captured across three separate cameras. We hope you like it! 😊
