What is Moldavite?

Moldavite is a natural glass tektite formed approximately 15 million years ago when a powerful meteorite impact in what is now southern Germany melted the Earth's surface rock, hurling molten material high into the atmosphere. As it cooled and fell back to Earth, it formed the distinctive forest-green glass we know as moldavite — found almost exclusively in the Bohemian region of the Czech Republic. Each piece carries its own natural texture and depth of colour, shaped by one of the most dramatic events in Earth's geological history.
